Thanks to East Liverpool City Hospital workers

To the editor: To the people of East Liverpool City Hospital who have served our family honorably for nearly 60 years, I want to take this public opportunity to issue a heartfelt thank you for all the times you have graciously, valiantly and patiently helped my family in our hours of need. From the birth of my sister to the deaths of my grandparents and more recently with struggles with the health of my mother and father, most of the time, we have been treated with care and respect and I am thankful for your help. Unfortunately we will not be coming to City Hospital any longer ...

Ballot language can mislead voters

To the editor: By law in Ohio, no one can try and influence your vote at the polling place. Ohio Revised Code 3501.35 specifically says that, “During an election and the counting of the ballots, no person shall....Solicit or in any manner attempt to influence any elector in casting the elector’s vote” But this year, the State government is breaking that law right inside the voting booth. The ballot language for State Issue One approved by the Ohio Ballot Board and the Secretary of State is written in such a way such that most any reasonable person reading it would be ...

Message from the Columbiana County Humane Society Board

Message from the Columbiana County Humane Society Board To the editor: Dear friends of the Columbiana County Humane Society, the Board is moving beyond the misconceptions circulated recently on social media, and we are determined to develop a better plan for the animals of the county based not only on years of experience, but national standards and advice from successful shelter leaders. Back in July, we were in a position of depleted funds caused by mounting vet bills, overcrowded conditions that caused increased labor costs and overwhelming maintenance repairs to the facility. At ...

Issue 1 more than about signs

To the editor: By now everyone has seen the Vote No on Issue 1 signs. But this requires more explanation than a battle to put out the most signs. In 2015 and 2018 Ohio voters went to the polls to amend the constitution to put in place several anti-gerrymandering provisions to make sure that communities, counties, villages, and cities couldn’t needlessly be split. Issue 1 says that every single district in the state of Ohio must be drawn to either be a Republican district or a Democratic district. ...

Vote to support Columbiana County Parks

To the editor: The Greenway Trail is an asset for Columbiana County as it provides a great outdoor venue for hiking, jogging and bicycling. It draws thousands of visitors (and their dollars) each year, boosting the local economy. But the trail is in danger and it needs our help. Parts of the trail are more than 20 years old and are deteriorating. Tree roots are pushing up in the trail in parts, and adjacent culverts need cleaning. On November 5, the Columbiana County Park District will seek voter approval of a 0.10 mill levy that would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 ...

Parents are first line of defense

To the editor: In my years serving Wellsville, I’ve seen firsthand that strong families are the foundation of our town. As a former councilman and school board member, I understand parents’ unique challenges in raising children in today’s digital age. While the online world offers immense opportunities, it also presents significant risks that parents must navigate to protect their children. Across Ohio, parents are the first line of defense for their children’s safety, teaching right from wrong and guiding them toward success. The same standard should apply online, but the ...
