CALCUTTA - The Pomeroy Historical Marker was installed at the Longs Run Church Cemetery Monday, Oct. 26, after over a year in the making.
Those responsible for making the marker available, including the William G. Pomeroy Foundation located in Syracuse, New York (http:www.wgpfoundation.org), which donated the plaque at no cost through the Sons of the American Revolution. The marker itself was manufactured by Sewah Studios in Marietta, Ohio. Also, the church and the cemetery board allowed the marker to be placed there and the St. Clair Township road crew installed it.
The marker displays gratitude for the effort and sacrifice the patriots gave. After the war they settled in Columbiana County to begin the process of developing area resources, raising families and founding the county by bringing prosperity to them and those who followed.
The five patriots buried in the cemetery are Paul Fisher, Henry Fisher, Daniel Herbert, Samuel Quigley and James Smith.
