Deputies were called to the Columbiana County Jail at 11:41 p.m. Tuesday due to inmates acting out. Nathaniel Baker, 19, Cleveland, and William Vacquet, for whom there was no additional information, were both reportedly angry. Vacquet told Deputy Brandon Brown he was promised a "boat" several times because his toilet and sink were not working and nobody would get him one. Vacquet complained he is being locked down in a cell with a broken toilet and sink. Additionally, Vacquet claimed he and other inmates were being threatened by one of the corrections officers, which was reportedly confirmed by another officer. Deputies calmed the situation down.
At 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, deputies were called to the jail to assist. At 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, deputies again were called after the inmates in pod 32 were refusing to go into lockdown. Sheriff Ray Stone said Nathaniel Baker, 19, Cleveland, was refusing to comply with orders so he could be handcuffed and tasers were deployed due to the non-compliance issues.
Jennifer Wright, Flushing, reported at 6:17 p.m. Wednesday she owns a rental property on Seigler Road and someone took the furnace and hot water tank from the home.
Ali N. Gatrell, Guy Road, Lisbon, reported at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday she is being stalked and harassed by her ex-boyfriend, Seth Swanson, Richey School Road, Hanoverton. Gatrell stated she had a protection order in place but it expired; however, County Municipal Court officials reportedly told her Swanson is still on probation so the no contact order was still in place. She showed deputies Google and Facebook messages where he was trying to contact her and photos of the messages were taken.
An abandoned vehicle was reported in the cemetery in East Fairfield at 2:18 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies had checked the vehicle earlier and told the township it could be towed at the owner's expense.
A possibly stolen Kubota side-by-side ATV was reported at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday in the woods beside the home of Thomas Hughes, state Route 154, Negley. Hughes told deputies he noticed the ATV when his boss picked him up for work that morning and put photos of it on Facebook. He soon learned it may be one reported stolen by John Papach in a report filed at the barracks of the Lawrence County Pennsylvania State Police earlier last week. Trooper Eric Young of Pennsylvania State Police confirmed it was the one listed as stolen, and Papach was notified so he could recover it from Hughes' property.
Chinia Shields, Walnut Street, Rogers, reported at 10:02 a.m. Friday she was operating her car westbound on state Route 154 between Riffle and Lusk Lock roads, when another car pulled off the side of the road. When Shields drove by, a stone kicked up from the other vehicle and struck her back right window. She pulled over just down the road and found the window shattered. She went back, but the other vehicle described as a black Kia Soul was gone.
Sara Burson, Adams Road, Middleton Township, reported at 4:22 p.m. Thursday she sent $750 in the form of a money order to a Walmart in Atlanta, Ga. because she received a telephone call from a man calling himself Ricardo Lang who told her she won $1 million, but she needed to send the money to cover the taxes. Burson also gave the man her Social Security number and driver's license number before heading to the bank to send $3,000 to him in the form of a certified check. The bank caught the scam. Burson reported at 5:40 p.m. Thursday someone called and ordered a pizza to her home using a strange number to call the pizza delivery place.
Timothy J. Novak, Adams Road, Center Township, reported Thursday during the past weekend he attempted to purchase a welder for $1,000 through Craigslist. The person asked Novak to pay using PayPal and eBay. He sent photos of $1,000 worth of eBay credit cards to the person selling the welder. The money is gone and there is no welder. Novak contacted eBay and is attempting to resolve the situation. Deputies also gave him the number for the Bureau of Criminal Investigations ID theft unit.
William G. Young, Main Street, Knox Township, reported at 9 p.m. Thursday his ex-girlfriend, Melissa Cohn, left his home a couple weeks ago. He has noticed his Android tablet is missing and the thought she may have taken it. Now he found someone posted something to his Facebook account stating "No one talk to my ex. I wish she would die." Young also was concerned about his ex-girlfriend harassing him by threatening to call numerous government agencies to turn him in for miscellaneous offenses, which he did not commit.
