LISBON -- A woman using a false or forged prescription to obtain drugs pleaded guilty to two charges on Thursday in county Common Pleas Court and was immediately placed on three years of community control.
Judge Scott Washam further sentenced Lisa A. Keener, 42, state Route 170, East Liverpool, to serve up to six months of the community control at the Eastern Ohio Correctional Center.
Keener pleaded guilty to two counts of illegal processing of a drug document, one charge a fourth-degree felony and the other a fifth-degree felony. On Oct. 7, Keener was using a false or forged prescription to obtain oxycodone and dicyclomine.
But Keener readily admits her drug-addiction problems go back 15 years to a time when she was given pain medication following an accident and then decided the medication was also helping her deal with the other problems she was having in her life. She later realized that was not really the case, but she was addicted by that point.
"I've hurt my family," Keener said, adding "I've hurt my friends."
Keener said she is now working to get her degree in substance abuse counseling so she can help others and is grateful to be alive.
Washam pointed out Keener's past criminal record is seven pages long and even though her defense attorney, Colleen Hall Dailey, talked about the program Keener has already completed along with her success of probation in East Liverpool Municipal Court including recent clean drug tests, Washam decided to send her to the EOCC anyway in hopes of getting her additional "tools" to help with her addiction.
Keener will not begin her time at the EOCC until after she serves a 49-day jail sentence she is scheduled to begin on Monday for misdemeanor charges in county Municipal Court. In those cases Keener had three theft charges regarding cigarettes and chewing tobacco stolen from Campbell's Grocery, Circle K and Valley View Gas Station all in Lisbon.
