Fire destroys vacant home

EAST LIVERPOOL -- A vacant house caught fire Sunday morning in the 100 block of South Shadylane in East Liverpool.
City firefighters were notified of the fire at 4:09 a.m. and were on scene by 4:12 a.m. The roof of 154 S. Shadylane Drive was burnt through on arrival.
The fire department's engine one, squad one and squad two were on scene. City police and AEP Energy also responded. It is undetermined what caused the fire No injuries were reported.
The county auditor's website lists Brian and Monica Kerr as the owner of the property, with a sales date of July 22. The property was built in 1930 and valued at $38,800. Brian Kerr reported the utilities were not on, and that the investigation is pending. He also said it was a total loss.
Kerr is waiting for Fire Chief William Jones to finish the investigation before following the proper channels to care for the property.
"I appreciate the hard work of the fire department and I'm thankful no one got hurt and no surrounding properties were damaged," said Kerr, an East Liverpool councilman and current candidate for mayor.
