Warming centers planned in event of outages

EAST LIVERPOOL — With temperatures expected to dip into the single digits and below over the next few days, the city has teamed up with the city school district and Community Resource Center to establish warming centers in the event of power outages.

Beginning today through through Thursday, facilities will be made available should electrical power be interrupted due to the extreme cold, according to Mayor Ryan Stovall.

The locations will be East Liverpool Middle School/Westgate, 810 W. Eighth St.; Community Resource Center, 940 State St.; and East Liverpool City Hall, 126 W. Sixth St.

The purpose of the centers is to provide temporary shelter to people who might be exposed to the elements, preventing them injury from the cold temperatures. Individuals using the centers must comply with all rules and policies, adhering to the following guidelines:

— Bring your own reading materials and any other personal items you require, with amplified sound devices prohibited

— Supply your own water and snacks

— Go to East Liverpool City Hospital if medical treatment is needed; no medical services will be provided at the warming centers. The centers will only be opened and utilized if there is a power outage, Stovall emphasized. If the centers must be opened, an announcement will be sent out via the NIXLE alerting system and the city’s social media page as well as local media if possible.
