EAST LIVERPOOL -- Officers responding just before 8 p.m. Sunday to reports of someone possibly breaking into a Bradshaw Avenue home ended up arresting two men found at the local Giant Eagle.
Charged with burglary were Michael A. Howard, 32, homeless, and Wilbert E. Faulk Sr., 59, Lincoln Avenue.
According to reports, officers were in the area of Bradshaw Avenue when the initial call came in at 7:54 p.m., and an officer recognized the clothing description given by the dispatcher as the same as that of Howard and Faulk, whom he reported having seen a short time earlier walking on Walnut Street toward Bradshaw Avenue.
Officers responded to the area, where they reported seeing Howard and Faulk walking at a fast pace through the Giant Eagle breezeway, both breathing heavily.
When officers began patting the two men down, explaining the reason they were stopped, Faulk reportedly told them he had some jewelry in his jacket, and, while speaking to them, said they learned the men had been inside the Bradshaw Avenue home to take items. Patrolman Chris Green and his K-9 partner Nero responded to the Bradshaw Avenue location to check for any other intruders or anyone injured inside, but no one else was located. Officers spoke with the owners of the home, Linda Wilson, who said neither of the men had permission to be inside. She did not know the two men. In East Liverpool Municipal Court Monday, both men appeared before Judge Melissa Byers Emmerling, who set a preliminary hearing for Howard Jan. 31, who had a public defender appointed.
Faulk waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was bound over to the county grand jury Both men had $100,000 cash/surety bond set.
