U.S. Postal Service interested in moving downtown location

EAST LIVERPOOL -- The U.S. Postal Service is interested in moving the downtown East Liverpool post office.
An email, received Thursday, announces a public meeting about the move will take place 5 p.m. Nov. 19 in council chambers at East Liverpool City Hall.
The postal service will discuss with attendees a proposal to move its retail operations and delivery -- currently provided at the East Liverpool Post Office, 700 Dresden Ave. -- to another location somewhere in town.
Although a new location has not yet been determined, officials with the postal service said the new site would be "as close as reasonably possible to the existing site."
According to spokesman David Van Allen, the move will consist of all operations to another location, which will be discussed during the meeting next month.
"It will be retail service and delivery," Van Allen said. "The window service there is what we call the retail service."
He did not provide any detail as to why the move to another building is wanted by the USPS.
Should the relocation happen, it was noted mail delivery to customers will not be impacted.
David Wolff, a real estate specialist with the U.S. Postal Service, will discuss the proposal and other details during the meeting. Residents will have an opportunity to address any questions and concerns at that time, and they can submit written comments regarding the proposal, with the letters to be sent no later than Dec. 29.

The USPS, the release states, relies on the sale of its services, postage and products to help fund its day-to-day operations and does not receive tax dollars for operating expenses.
