Tops 2231
EAST LIVERPOOL -- TOPS 2231 met at Always Best Care on Oct. 10. The meeting opened with the TOPS and KOPS pledges and roll call.
Cassy Stephens gave the treasurer report and Pam Fouse gave the secretary report. Both were approved as read.
Verla Betteridge and Mary Wolf were the KOPS best losers. Pam Fouse was the TOPS and officer best loser. It was a No Gainer week.
Wolf won the calorie charts and 50/50, Fouse won the dimes.
The no nos are cookies and no eating after dinner.
Wolf had a program on Staying Positive With Age and De- Stress.
The meeting closed with prayer requests followed by the Lord's Prayer. New and former members are always welcome at 5 p. m. on Tuesdays.
Democratic Women
WEIRTON -- The Hancock County Federation of Democratic Women held their monthly meeting on Sept. 18, at Giovanni's Family Restaurant with President Link calling the meeting to order, welcoming those in attendance and leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Silent attendance was taken.
Secretary Teresa McCombs passed the minutes of the August meeting, which were approved. Treasurer Debbie Caine read the Treasurer's report, which will be filed for audit
There were no Committee Chairmen reports.
The "True Blue Chicken Blast" which was held on Aug. 30 at the Serbian picnic grounds was a success with 21 attendees, which included three guests from the Brooke County Democratic Women Federation.
The annual meeting held on Sept.15-17 at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Triadelphia, W.Va. was discussed.
After further discussion, it was decided that the garage sale fund raiser was not feasible, President Link received a notification that the Weirton Elementary School, Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton, would have a PTA Fall Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 14 and after discussing the same it was decided that the Federation would join them by having a table in their parking lot selling tickets for the Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle, which would benefit the scholarship fund. The donation letter was e-mailed to members.
President Link asked for volunteers for the nominating committee. The nominating committee consisted of Dina Carnes, Caine and McCombs. The tentative slate of officers were notified and they approved.
Women's Day at the Legislature will be held in March 2018 in Charleston, W.Va. Further information will be forthcoming.
The scholarship essay question will be discussed at the October meeting.
No further business, the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 16 at Giovanni's Family Restaurant, Weirton, with dinner at 5 p.m. and the business meeting at 6.
The Federation welcomes new members. All Democratic women residing in Hancock County are invited to attend and join the group at Giovanni's Family Restaurant, Pennsylvania Avenue, Weirton, WV. Members are needed. Dues are $5.00 per person for the year.
