Crestview gives Auer 400th victory
COLUMBIANA — The list of Columbiana County volleyball coaches with hundreds and hundreds of wins is a significant one.
All-time Ohio leader Dan McKinstry, Don Conser, Judi Gregory, Bob Shansky and Debbie Boyd are among those who built the foundation of some of the county’s best programs.
Well, the page is turning to a new era and you can count Crestview’s Alisha Auer among those names. The longtime Rebel coach reached her 400th win of her career as her team captured its 10th straight league title with a 25-10, 25-13, 25-11 win over LaBrae in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Grey Division finale on Tuesday.
“You know what, they were coaches when I played (in high school),” said Alisha Auer, who is 400-126 overall. “I don’t even put myself in that category. It’s just surreal that I have 400 wins. I’m just coaching night to night. I don’t really keep track.”
Alisha Auer said she registered her 300th against LaBrae when her daughter Grace, now a player at the University of Findlay, was on her team. She said she wanted to try to get to 400 with her daughter Lainy still on the team.
“I thought it would be really tough to do, but it happened,” Alisha Auer said.
“I’m very blessed. We have had very good teams.”
