Beavers score double digit victory

EAST LIVERPOOL — Beaver Local’s girls soccer team is hitting on all cylinders.

Led by the Beavers took down East Liverpool 10-0 on Monday to improve to 7-1 on the season.

It was the Beavers’ second win over the Potters this season with the first being an 11-0 rout on Aug. 15 to open the season.

For the Beavers, Leah Stewart and Peyton Dunn each scored three goals, with Stewart also adding two assists to lead the Beavers’ attack. Jansen Ours had a goal and two assists, while Sophia Smith, Alexis Lasure and Riley Springer each added a goal.

In goal, Tatum Duncan made three saves and Teneille Diaz-Wilson stopped two shots to preserve the shutout.

Beaver Local was ranked 16th in Div. IV by MaxPreps’ rating system coming into Monday’s contest. In the Youngstown area, the Beavers are ranked fourth behind West Branch, Niles and Mooney.

In Class 4A in the OVAC the Beavers command a big lead in the standings with Indian Creek a distant second. The OVAC 4A playoffs are scheduled the week of Sept. 22.

Beaver Local is at United on Wednesday.

East Liverpool is 1-4-1 and will host Edison on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

Beaver Local 3, Brooke 0

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local swept Brooke 25-9, 25-19, 25-2 in volleyball action Monday.

Beaver Local is 9-0 and has won all 25 sets this season.

Bria Boyd had 26 assists, eight aces, two kills and five digs to pace the attack. Eva McKnight added eight kills, while Sydney McNear tallied seven kills and four digs. Giada Williams had five kills, a block and two digs. Lily Schrieber chipped in five kills and five digs, and Perri Gilson served six aces with five digs. Addie Thurik had four kills, Karsyn Bowyer two aces and six digs, and Taylor Pease five digs.

The Beaver reserves edged Brooke 25-22, 30-28. Madison Poppelriter had eight kills and two digs, while Thurik contributed five kills, eight assists and two digs. Macie Bourne finished with six kills and two digs, and Schrieber handed out 19 assists with four kills and seven digs.

The Beaver freshman beat Canfield, 18-25, 25-18, 26-24. Giada Circelli led the defense, while Gianna Congrove keyed the offense.

Beaver Local will host East Liverpool on Thursday in its Volley for a Cure match.

East Liverpool 3, Indian Creek 0

WINTERSVILLE — East Liverpool’s volleyball team beat Indian Creek 25-14, 22-25, 25-12, 25-13 on Monday.

East Liverpool is 6-2 and hosts Lisbon on Wednesday.

For the Potters, Kamryn Yanni had five aces, two kills and 37 assists. Presley Jones had six aces, five kills and two blocks. Addie Jones had three kills. Kendall Martin added five aces and 13 kills. Ava Green sparked the attack with 15 kills, while Hailey Board had four aces and four kills. Ayla Riggle had 13 digs and three assists.

East Liverpool won the jayvee match, 25-17, 25-12. Ella Gunning had nine assists. Coli Spencer added six kills, while Peyton Tanner had 11 assists. Addy Smith had four kills and Killy white had three aces and five kills.

Southern 3, Jefferson County Christian 0

SALINEVILLE — Haylee Kellogg totaled 23 points, fie aces and 16 assists as Southern rolled over Jefferson County Christian, 5-10, 25-6, 25-16, Monday.

The Indians improe to 5-4 and will play at unbeaten Columbiana today.

Leaders for the Indians were Katie Kellogg with six points and 14 kills, Allyssa Shroades eight points, five kills and three blocks, Kalayah Crute six kills, Natalia Lopez four kills and Cheyenne Buzzard two kills.
