DOVER — East Liverpool’s two doubles teams won matches Monday to advance in the Division II East District sectional tournament.

Brady Dawson and Kodie Fennell topped Cambridge, 6-2, 6-2, befor falling to second-seeded West Holmes, 6-1, 6-1.

The Potters’ second doubles team of Garrett Cooper and Nicholas Aldrich outlasted St. Clairsville, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, and lost to top-seeded Cambridge, 6-4, 6-1.

They will return to action today and play will be for district seeding.

The top eight doubles teams and top eight singles players advance to district play Monday, May 19, at Dover City Park.

East Liverpool’s Jacob Gibas won his first singles match over Cambridge, 6-1, 7-5, before falling to fourth-seeded Steubenville Catholic Central, 6-0, 6-0.

Also for the Potters, Trey Nizer lost to St. Clairsville, 6-0, 6-1, and Aaron Nelson lost to West Holmes, 6-1, 6-2.
