Kwasniak stings Wellsville with 37
WILLOUGHBY — Cornerstone Christian senior Quinn Kwasniak hit his average of 37 points and the Patriots took down Wellsville 86-45 on Tuesday in a Div. VII district semifinal.
The Army recruit had been averaging 37.9 points a game for the top-seeded Patriots. Kwasniak is the second-leading scorer in Ohio high school history behind former Ohio State star Jon Diebler who ended his career with 3,208 points.
In addition Kwasniak owns the state career three-point record.
Wellsville (11-13) fell behind 33-16 after a quarter and 65-31 at the half. The Tigers were the 12th seed.
Andrew Mackey led the Tigers with 15 points, and six rebounds. Tyrell Watkins added 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Darnell Roe had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.
The Tigers had 18 turnovers.
Kwasniak, who entered the tournament with a career-total of 3,020, had 34 of the Patriots’ points in the first half.
Cornerstone is 16-8 and will meet No. 9 seed Western Reserve at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Smithville High School for the district title. The game is the first of a triple-header of district finals.
