Sloans lead Indians past Leetonia

Southern Local and Leetonia communities rallied around Bricelynn Garrett, a Southern Local kindergarten student who is battling the brain cancer Medulloblastoma, before the teams’ game on Friday at Southern Local. Bricelynn’s parents Brittany and Zack Garrett were introduced before the game. Many in the large crowd wore ‘Bricelynn Strong’ T-shirts. SALINEVILLE — Southern Local got 27 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and six assists from Braxton Sloan in a 68-48 rout of Leetonia on Friday.
Homecoming king Richie Sloan added 10 points. Mason Pitts had 11 points and nine boards for the 6-7 Indians who are 4-3 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. Landen Heffner chipped in 10 points and seven assists.
For Leetonia, Dylan Johns led the way with 20 points, while Carson Brock had 16 points. The Bears are 4-11 and 0-9 in the league.
Leetonia won the jayvee game, 23-20.
Aiden Davis had nine points for Southern.
Southern will host Lisbon on Saturday.

Valley 64, Wellsville 34
YOUNGSTOWN — Valley Christian maintained its lead in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference by downing Wellsville 64-34 on Friday.
Wellsville fell to 5-10 and 3-6 in the league.
Valley moved to 11-2 and 9-0 in the EOAC.
For the Tigers, Tyrell Watkins had 11 points and five steals, despite missing most of the second half after fouling out. Andrew Mackey had seven rebounds for Wellsville.
Valley won the jayvee game, 40-38. Eric Dowling scored eight for the Tigers.
Wellsville hosts Leetonia on Tuesday.

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s girls basketball team celebrated senior night with a 49-37 win over Cambridge.
The Beavers improved to 6-11 as Calli Sorge led the way with 16 points. Ally Wright added 13 points and Tori Druschel tacked on nine more.
Beaver Local won the jayvee game, 35-12. Lilly Wright had seven points, while Emily Culp and Leah Schrieber had six points each for the Beavers, 9-6.
Beaver Local heads to Harrison Central on Monday.
