Beavers pounce on Indian Creek

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local left no doubts Friday night.

Junior Owen Hill scored 10 points to help give the Beavers a 27-4 lead in the opening seven minutes on the way to a 69-44 win over Indian Creek.

The Beavers have won five in a row to improve to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the Buckeye 8. Indian Creek drops to 2-8 and 1-4 in the Buckeye 8. Beaver Local swept the season series, including a 75-61 win on Dec. 14.

Hill led all scorers with 20 points. Luke Rettos added 14 points, Matt Anderson 11, Hunter Warrick 10 and Taylor Johnston eight.

Caleb Bodo topped the Redskins with 16 points.

All five Beaver Local starters scored as Hunter Warrick’s three-pointer gave them a 13-0 lead only 2:44 into the game.

Hill went 6-for-6 from the foul line and Anderson had consecutive layups as the Beavers built a 27-4 lead with 1:00 remaining in the first quarter.

Indian Creek scored the next seven points, but the Beavers countered with Rettos making a conventional three-point play and then a three-pointer to build a 35-11 lead with 4:24 left in the second quarter.

The Beavers led 42-22 at halftime and 65-32 through three quarters.

Beaver Local won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 26-17.

Indian Creek will play at Edison on Saturday.

Beaver will host West Branch on Tuesday.

Lisbon 50, Leetonia 40

LEETONIA — A.J. Ramgeet had 17 points and eight rebounds as Lisbon dropped Leetonia 50-40 on Friday in the only Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference game on the slate.

Lisbon is 5-6 and 3-3 in the EAOC, while Leetonia fell to 3-8 and 0-6.

Blaine Barnes added 14 points for the Devils, while Luke Kraft had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tim Brandon had 10 boards.

Dylan Johns had nine points for the Bears. Ethan Mathia added eight points.

Leetonia won the jayvee game, 34-23. Brayden Gainey had 15 points for the Bears, while Logan Sturgeon had 17 points for the Devils.

Lisbon hosts Youngstown Urban Scholars on Saturday.

Leetonia is at Valley Christian on Tuesday.
