Beavers bounce Oak Glen

Beaver Local’s Owen Hill powers through Oak Glen’s Gavin Geisse and Tyler Evans on Friday at Beaver Local.

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local let Oak Glen hang around for a half.

The Beavers rallied from a five-point deficit and used a 41-point second half to pull away from the Golden Bears for a 66-46 win Friday.

Owen Hill powered the Beavers with a game-high 24 points. Taylor Johnston had three three-pointers for nine points. Matt Anderson and Luke Rettis added eight apiece.

The Beavers improve to 9-3, while the Golden Bears lost their seventh straight game to fall to 4-8.

Gavin Geisse topped Oak Glen with nine points. Mason Kell contributed eight.

The Bears got two three-pointers from Tyler Evans and another from Geisse to go ahead 19-14 with 2:31 remaining in the second quarter.

The Bears had only four turnovers in the first half, but three of them came in the final two minutes and the Beavers took advantage.

Hill scored five points and Hunter Warrick and Anderson each added two to put the Beavers ahead 25-22 at halftime.

Beaver Local had 10 turnovers in the first half and turned it around in the second half, outscoring Oak Glen 41-25.

The Beavers also won the junior varsity game, 50-18, as Peyton Cowdery scored 11 points and Max Crabtree nine.

Beaver Local will play at Hubbard on Saturday. Oak Glen hosts Wellsville on Tuesday.

STEUBENVILLE — East Liverpool’s boys basketball team could not keep up with the Steubenville juggernaut on Friday as Big Red ran away with an 80-43 win.

It was the Potters’ biggest loss of the season.

Steubenville is 11-1, while the Potters fell to 11-3.

Tre’von Wiggins had 24 points for Big Red.

Cohen Pease and Blake Adkins had 10 points each for the Potters.

East Liverpool will start a five-game road swing at Mooney on Tuesday.

SALINEVILLE — Deion Miller had 22 points and Jaylen Robinson added 19 more as Valley Christian maintained its Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference lead with a 74-51 win over Southern Local on Friday.

Valley Christian is 11-2 and 8-0 in the EOAC. The Ealges maintain a one-game lead over Columbiana.

Southern fell to 4-6 and 3-3.

Braxton Sloan led the Indians with 18 points, four steals, eight rebounds and six assists. Jacob McCurdy had eight points and and eight rebounds. Richie Sloan had four steals.

The Indians will be at Conotton Valley on Sunday afternoon.

Valley won the jayvee game, 48-15. Aiden Davis had seven points for Southern.

LISBON — Lisbon’s boys basketball team got 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals from A.J. Ramgeet in a 50-45 win over Wellsville on Friday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Lisbon is 7-6 and 4-3 in the EOAC, while Wellsville is 4-8 and 3-5.

Aidan Ramgeet had 13 points, while Blaine Barnes added 12 points and six boards.

For Wellsville, Tyrell Watkins had 18 points. Darnell Roe added 11 points. Andrew Mackey had 10 points.

Lisbon is at United next Friday.

Wellsville hosts Heartland on Saturday.

LISBON — Lisbon’s Jayden Smyth had 12 points to lead the Blue Devils to a 39-33 victory on Friday in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference girls contest.

Lisbon is 4-12 and 2-8 in the EOAC.

East Palestine fell to 3-11 and 1-9. Emma Gingher led the Bulldogs with 12 points, while Jacklyn Ogle had 11 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.

Lisbon is at Leetonia on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs are at Steubenville Catholic Central Saturday.
