Beavers, Potters made a mark in the East District
East Liverpool and Beaver Local each placed three players on the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association East District All-Star Football Team.
Getting first-team honors in Division IV are East Liverpool senior defensive lineman D’Shawn Kirby, East Liverpool senior wide receiver Blake Adkins, East Liverpool senior quarterback Gavin Wright, Beaver Local senior linebacker Kane Curran, Beaver Local senior defensive back Brock Severs and Beaver Local senior offensive lineman Carson Temple.
Kirby helped lead the Potters to a 7-5 season that included six wins in the last seven games. He totaled 88 tackles with 30 for a loss, 11 sacks and nine quarterback hurries.
Adkins had 59 receptions for 1,042 yards (17.7) and 11 touchdowns — all school records.
Wright also was a Potter record setter as he completed 135 of 214 passes (63%) for 2,157 yards and 21 touchdowns and ran for 690 yards and eight touchdowns on 119 carries (5.8).
Curran totaled 157 tackles, including 40 solos, with 17 for a loss and seven sacks.
Severs was a threat of both sides of the ball. As a defensive back, he made three interceptions, returning one for a touchdown a school-record 99 yards, to go along with 60 tackles, including 25 solos and four for a loss.
Temple was a three-year starter on the offensive line. He had a 92% grade this season with 27 pancake blocks.
Kirby, Severs and Curran also were first-teamers last year.
Receiving honorable mention were East Liverpool senior lineman John Weyand, East Liverpool senior linebacker Kasen Ramsey, Beaver Local senior quarterback Taylor Johnston and Beaver Local senior lineman Isaac Prescott.
