Southern upends Toronto

SALINEVILLE — Ashley Shroades scored 25 of her game-high 29 points in the second half after her teammates helped the Southern Local girls take a first-half lead in a 61-40 win over Toronto on Friday.

The Indians led 20-17 at halftime in spite of Shroades spending time on the bench after two early fouls. She came on in the second half, finishing with 15 rebounds, eight steals and three assists.

Olivia Kerns totaled 14 points and 10 rebounds and freshman point guard Kennedy Lewis had a fine all-around game with 11 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.

There was no junior varsity game.

Southern (2-0) will host Bridgeport on Monday with a varsity-only contest beginning at 6 p.m.
