Volleyball preview set

HUBBARD — Crestview, Columbiana, South Range and Wellsville are expected to play in the Mahoning Valley Volleyball Officials Association Preseason Preview today at Hubbard High School.

Crestview opens play at 10 a.m. against Columbiana in the varsity gym and the same two JV teams play at 11:15. Wellsville plays host Hubbard in a JV match at 12:30 and thevarsity teams face off at 1:45 p.m. South Range’s JV team plays Campbell at 10 a.m. and those two varsity teams play at 11:15. a.m.

The seventh match of the day the is between the varsity teams from Niles and Brookfield.

Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students, and there is no charge for children that are not in school.

Proceeds from this event go towards the scholarship fund for the MVVOA which is given to high school volleyball players as they further their education. There will also be baskets brought by each team that will be raffled off to raise money for the scholarship fund.

No futbol for Potters

EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool’s boys soccer game with Edison on Friday was postponed due to storms. It will be made up at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Patterson Field.

Brewers-Pirates postponed

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A game scheduled between the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night was postponed because of rain and will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader Saturday.

The first game will be played at 2:35 p.m. and the nightcap at 7:05 p.m. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.

Friday’s game was called 1 hour, 5 minutes after the scheduled start time. A heavy thunderstorm swept through the area about an hour before the game was eventually postponed, and the weather forecast called for more rain.

The Brewers entered Friday with an eight-game lead over Cincinnati in the NL Central and have won 13 of their last 14 road games. The Pirates have lost eight straight.

Southern edges Edison

GUILFORD LAKE — Southern Local bested Edison 182-209 on Friday at Twin Springs Golf Course.

For Southern (1-2), Gavin Tribelo had a 40, Silas Black 46, Zack Tribelo 48 and Jason Riggs 48.

Ryan Dinger led Edison with a 46.

Southern will host Columbiana on Monday.

Quakers smash Beavers

SALEM — Auburn Hamilton, Emma Hammers and Maria Sargent all won singles matches to lead Salem to a 3-2 win over Beaver Local on Thursday in girls tennis action.

Beaver Local won the doubles matches.
