Weir High dumps logo

WEIRTON, W.Va. — Weir High School is removing the Red Rider as a secondary logo for the foreseeable future throughout the school.

School officials said they have been removing images depicting Native Americans. They said the cartoon logo has never been an official school mascot, but has appeared on apparel.

The Red Rider is being removed throughout all facilities and is being requested to no longer be used. No official word was given regarding a possible change with the nickname.

The block, black and white “W” will remain the official logo.
