Sloan has sights on OVAC title

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Southern senior Brad Sloan leaped to the front at the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Championships on Monday.

Sloan topped the field in the Class 1A/2A long jump with a leap of 22-feet-1, the best in the area this season.

Linsly sophomore Nathan Coleman was first in the Monday’s Class 3A qualifying meet by jumping 19-feet-8.

The top four in each event advance to Saturday’s finals at Red Devil Stadium.

Sloan also was second in the 100-meter dash (11.60 seconds).

The Southern boys had three other qualifiers –sophomore Zack Tribelo was second in the 800 run (2:13.01); Cameron Sloan, Colton Soukup, Marcus Reed and Zack Tribelo was third in the 1600 relay (3:55.47); and Cameron Sloan, Marcus Reed, Logan Redfern and Gavin Tribelo were fourth in the 3200 relay (9:37.55).

Southern girls qualifiers were Brooke Brown, Lindsey Bregar, Mckenna Sheets and Elizabeth Mostella in third in the 100 shuttle hurdles (1:27.55) and sophomore Jessica Lafferty was fourth in the long jump (13-7 1/4).

Class 4A and 5A will hold their qualifying meets today.
