Districts beckon for Potters

DOVER — East Liverpool’s Cole Dailey and the doubles team of Norman Butler and Preston Dawson got their district positioning squared away on Tuesday during action on the second day of the Div. II sectional at Dover City Park.

Dailey won his semifinal 6-0, 6-1 over St. Clairsville’s Evan Holstein before losing to top seed Curtis Wagner of West Wolmes 7-5, 6-0 in the final.

Dawson and Butler fell to Cambridge’s second doubles team of Brady Hannon and Blade Bachmann 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in the doubles semifinal. Butler and Dawson lost to West Holmes’ top-seeded team of James Barr and Hunter Ellis in the third-place match by a score of 6-2, 7-6.

The top four singles and doubles teams advanced to the Div. II district tournament set for Saturday, May 22 at Portsmouth High School.

The four doubles teams and four singles players from the Dover sectional will be joined by eight doubles teams and eight singles players from the Southeast sectionals in the district tournament.

The top two district finishers in the singles and doubles competitions will advance to the 101st annual boys state tennis tournament set for May 28-29 at the Linder Family Tennis Center in Mason.

Oak Glen at Weir

WEIRTON, W.VA. –Weir and Oak Glen split tennis matches on Tuesday.

Weir’s boys won 6-0, while the Oak Glen girls won 7-0.
