Rebels pause practice

COLUMBIANA –Crestview became the latest area football team to halt practices after it was notified by the Columbiana County Health Department on Wednesday that a player had tested positive for COVID-19.

The player last attended practice on Aug. 6. On Aug. 7, the player called the coach to let him know he was ill.

The school determined the player was in close contact with three other football players and those players will be quarantined 14 days from their last contact with the player.

Close contact is defined as 15 minutes or more in a close, confined environment.

The Columbiana County Health Department said Crestview could continue holding practices due to “immediate and decisive action by coaches” as stated in a news release by Crestview Local Schools.

However, the Crestview football program elected to temporarily suspend football practices until Aug. 17 in order to best communicate with families.

Other area programs who have paused football activities during August include East Palestine, Boardman, Poland, Youngstown East, Youngstown Chaney, Niles, McDonald and Poland.

All other sports programs and extracurricular activities at Crestview are continuing as normal.
