Crestview leaves OVAC

COLUMBIANA — Crestview will exit the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference at the end of the school year.

The Rebels were accepted into the conference in November 2016 and were eligible for OVAC tournaments during the 2017-18 school year.

The Board of Education announced during Tuesday’s meeting that the school district was grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the OVAC, but it was ready to move on.

Crestview is currently a part of the All-American Conference.

YSU seasons over

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University’s men’s basketball season has concluded after the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament has been canceled. The Penguins were set to host a game in the tournament on March 18.

Spring competitions in the Horizon League were also halted after the NCAA canceled spring championships on Thursday.

Youngstown State finished the men’s basketball campaign with an overall record of 18-15 and tied a school record for most Horizon League wins with 10. The Penguins’ 18 wins rank tied for the third most in the program’s Division I history.

“We cannot be prouder of our players for all of the accomplishments they achieved this season,” YSU head coach Jerrod Calhoun said. “To tie a school record for most Horizon League wins and have 18 overall wins, which are tied for the third most in our Division I history, really speaks highly of our players’ work ethic, dedication and improvement.”
