Warriors rebound against Potters

CARROLLTON — Adam Chaney scored 18 points, including four three-pointers, and pulled down 11 rebounds in leading Carrollton past East Liverpool, 62-54, Saturday night.

Carrollton, which lost 41-35 at West Branch on Friday to force a share for the Eastern Buckeye Conference lead, improves to 8-3 on the season.

Jimmy Birong contributed 12 points and Brady Benner 10 for Carrollton.

East Liverpool, which moves to 7-3, got 19 points from Tresean Jackson and 11 from Brennan O’Hara.

The East Liverpool junior varsity team moved to 8-0 with a 48-40 win.

The Potters will host Buckeye Local on Tuesday.

Oak Glen 50, Shenandoah 44

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. — The Oak Glen boys basketball team held off Shenandoah, 50-44, on Saturday. nights

Zach Taylor led the Golden Bears with 18 points. Jacob Clark collected 16 points, while Brayden Mineard and Blake Perez had six apiece.

Oak Glen improves to 6-4.

Oak Glen also won the jayvee game, 47-44. Jered Hissam led the Bears with 18 points.

The Bears will travel to Brooke on Tuesday.

Wellsville 60, Toronto 40

WELLSVILLE — Senior point guard Darien Suggs is back and so are the Wellsville Tigers.

Suggs, playing for the first time this season after breaking his arm during football season, scored 11 points in the opening period as the Tigers opened up an early lead on the way to a 60-40 win over Toronto on Saturday night.

The Tigers (4-5) led 22-11 in the first quarter — getting 11 points apiece from Suggs and Justin Wright — and never looked back.

Suggs totaled 19 points, nine rebounds and six assists in his first game. Justin Wright finished with a game-high 20 points. Luke Green contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

A.J. Clegg scored 15 points for Toronto, which won the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title the last two seasons before leaving for an independent schedule.

Wellsville won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 35-20.

The Tigers will play at Southern Local on Tuesday.
