East Liverpool improves to 7-4; Heartland edges Southern Local

EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool used a 30-15 second-half run to rally past East Palestine, 47-45, Saturday afternoon. The Potters improve to 7-4 overall.

Trailing 30-17 at halftime, the Potters closed the gap to 39-35 after three quarters and outscored the Bulldogs 12-6 in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Emma Ludwig scored 10 of her team-high 17 points in the second half for the Potters. Shayla Foster added eight points and Selena Rogers keyed the third-quarter charge by scoring all six of her points.

Joclyn Fristik paced East Palestine with a game-high 24 points, 20 coming in the first half.

East Liverpool visits Edison on Monday, while East Palestine hosts Leetonia Thursday.

Heartland 31, Southern 30

SALINEVILLE — Heartland Christian made 11 free throws, while Southern shot 3-of-16 from the foul line as the Lions pulled out a 31-30 win Saturday afternoon.

Sydney Ogden shot 9-of-13 from the foul line for a game-high 11 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks to lead Heartland. Madi Matthews added eight points, nine rebounds and four steals. Jeanna Morgan added eight rebounds and three steals.

Southern (0-11) got seven points, nine rebounds, seven steals and three assists from Taylor Cunningham and seven points, seven rebounds and four steals from Erin Boyle. Olivia Kerns added 10 rebounds and five blocks.

There was no junior varsity game.

Southern hosts Wellsville Monday, while Heartland entertains Lake Center on Saturday.
