Wolfe seeks funds for turf

DENVER — Denver Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe is bringing his cause home.

He is one of 26 Broncos who are auctioning their customized cleats as part of the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats charity campaign.

Wolfe, a 2008 graduate of Beaver Local High School, said on social media that proceeds from the auction of his cleats will go toward a turf field at the high school.

“I’m trying to build a new field for my high school to give these kids a chance at a better future through sports,” Wolfe said. “Heroin has ravaged the Ohio Valley. I hope by giving these kids a decent field, it will encourage them to choose sports over drugs.”

The NFL said My Cause My Cleats allows players to express their commitment to the causes that are most important to them.

Bidding starting Tuesday and stood at $275 on Wednesday night. Bidding can be done at dbron.co/cleats through Dec. 23.
