Hoppel Tournament boasts largest field

CALCUTTA — The 42nd annual Everett Hoppel Memorial Wrestling Tournament will boast its largest field ever on Saturday at Beaver Local High School.

A total of 17 teams will take place in the tournament set to begin at 9 a.m.

In addition to host Beaver Local, Indian Creek, Southern, Boardman, Salem, Girard, Weirton Madonna, Austintown Fitch, Edison, Martins Ferry, Marlington, Indian Valley, Dover, Meadowbrook, Canton South and West Allegheny (Pa.) will be in attendance.

Beaver Local’s lineup will feature six 2018 state qualifiers in Mark Emmerling, Logan Krulik, Logan Ours, Daniel Wirth, Skyler Lasure and Cole McComas.

McComas is a three-time state runner-up at 138 and Lasure is a three-time state-placer at 152.

The tournament is held in memory of Everett Hoppel by the Hoppel family who has been deeply involved in the area wrestling community for decades.

Day passes for the tournament are $10 for adults and $6 for students. Tickets for the championship round only are $6 for adults and $4 for students. The finals will begin approximately one hour after the completion of the other rounds.
