Heartland rally in the fourth dooms Devils

LISBON — McDonald senior Zach Rasile has made more three-pointers than any Ohio boys basketball in state history.

He added eight more Saturday as he scored 40 points in leading McDonald past Valley Christian, 80-51, in the fourth annual Lisbon Tip-Off Classic championship game.

Rasile, who had 37 points against Heartland on Friday, scored 16 points in the first quarter and hit five three-pointers in the third quarter on Saturday.

Jake Portolese contributed 28 points to the winning effort.

In the consolation game, Heartland outscored host Lisbon 19-9 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 53-50 win.

Steven Baker and Ronnie Mathews each scored 14 points to lead Heartland. Cade Roth added nine points.

Ryan McCullough topped Lisbon with 16 points and Blayne Brownfield had 13 points. Adam Spencer grabbed six rebounds and Nic Mundy made two steals.

Lisbon will play at East Canton on Tuesday.

In junior varsity action, Valley defeated Lisbon 42-35. Raquan Bill had 15 points for Valley. Hunter Sturgeon led Lisbon with 17 points.

Steubenville Central 54, Southern 15

STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville Catholic Central jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and beat Southern Local, 54-15, Saturday.

Isabella Oliver scored 16 points and Edy Harold 10 to lead the Crusaders.

Southern was paced by Makayla Crow with six points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Ronni Mayfield contributed six points, three assists and three steals. Lindsay Ingledue had five rebounds and three steals and Taylor Cunningham made five steals.

Southern (0-2) will play at Wellsville on Dec. 9.

Steubenville Central also won the junior varisty game, 45-9, as Maria Meyer scored 10 points. Jessica Lafferty had four points for the Indians.
