Area athletes rack up OVAC honors

Several outstanding area high school football players were named first team selections in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference this past season.
Southern Local, which went 10-0 in the regular season in winning the OVAC 2A title as well as the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title, had five first team selections including seniors Craig Steven, Cam Grodhaus, Dylan Milhoan and Jayce Sloan. Junior Brad Sloan was also a first-team pick. Also in Class 2A, Wellsville seniors Draven Crow and Darien Suggs were first-team picks.
Oak Glen had a season to remember in going 10-0 in the regular season and earning the OVAC Class 4A title as well as reaching the West Virginia state semifinals in Class AA.
The Bears had five selections on the Class 4A first team including juniors Brayden Mineard, Kyler O’Connor, Gage Patterson and Hunter Patterson. Senior Michael Lemley was also included in the mix.
For East Liverpool, seniors Derek Carter and Nick Woodyard were named to the first team. For Beaver Local, senior Daniel Wirth and junior Tanner Johnston were first team picks.
Honorable mentions in Class 4A included Beaver Local’s Jacob Kane and Nick Wukotich; East Liverpool’s Timmy Neal, Skylor Wooley and Kaz Zubay; Oak Glen’s Nick Chaney, Matthew Malick and Paxton Shuman.
Honorable mentions in Class 2A included Southern Local’s Latrell Crute, Hunter Morris and Kyle Young; Wellsville’s Braden Cartwright and Caden Weekley.
