Potters open with sweep
NEW PHILADELPHIA — The East Liverpool boys and girls bowling teams opened the season Monday by sweeping Sugarcreek Garaway at Wabash Lanes.
The East Liverpool boys won 2,301 to 2,227. Logan Simms topped the Potters with a 197 game and 378 series. Paxton Grimes added 190-352.
The Potter girls also won 1,825 to 1,701. For the Potters, Hannah Russell rolled 188-333 and Angelica Rogers 168-304.
East Liverpool will host Harrison Central at Walnut Lanes Thursday.
Wellsville bowlers win
BOARDMAN — The Wellsville bowling team got off to a good start Monday.
The Tigers routed Youngstown Ursuline, 1,961 to 1,018, at Camelot Lanes.
Jonathan Walker led the Tigers with a 192 game and 367 series. Joe LaScola contributed a 216-374 and Nate Buxton 161-319.
Wellsville will play Youngstown Mooney at Walnut Lanes Dec. 4.
Wellsville will be varsity only
WELLSVILLE — The Heartland Christian at Wellsville girls basketball game in Friday’s season opener will be a varsity-only contest beginning at 6 p.m.
Knicks down Cavs
NEW YORK (AP) — Julius Randle scored 30 points, Marcus Morris Sr. added 23 and the New York Knicks beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 123-105 on Monday night. R.J. Barrett added 15 points and Damyean Dotson had 11 for New York.
Kevin Porter Jr. led Cleveland with 18 points. Collin Sexton and Alfonzo McKinnie each had 14.
The Knicks scored the game’s first four points and never trailed. Randle had 15 points in the first quarter as the Knicks built two 16-point leads before settling for a 32-20 advantage at the end of the quarter.
The Cavaliers pulled within 36-31, but the Knicks followed with a 24-8 run and took a 60-39 lead on Randle’s 3-pointer with 2:26 left in the half.
Randle had 23 points at halftime as the Knicks took a 64-51 advantage into the break.
