Potters prevail as Buckeye 8 champions

CALCUTTA — East Liverpool scored twice in the second half to ruin Beaver Local’s senior night on Saturday during regular season boys soccer play.

Coming into the game, five out of the last six Potter-Beaver games were tied after regulation. The win also handed the Potters the Buckeye 8 Athletic League title.

East Liverpool is 9-3-2 and hosts Zanesville Maysville in the Div. II sectional tournament on Wednesday. The Potters were 4-0-2 in the Buckeye 8.

East Liverpool’s Ayden Payne and Brennan O’Hara provided the goals. Izaiha Browning had an assist.

Payne led the team with 19 goals this season. Jacob Myers topped the team with nine assists.

Cole Dailey had four saves in goal.

Beaver Local is 6-5-3 and hosts Carrollton in the Div. II sectional tournament on Saturday.

The two teams could meet again in the district semifinal if Beaver beats Carrollton and East Liverpool beats Maysville and Steubenville.

Oak Glen 2

COLUMBIANA — Gabe Heinrich had two goals and two assists, while Collin Schick, Ashton Kakavros, Travis Cross and Drake Daughtery each added a goal in the Clippers 6-2 win over Oak Glen on Saturday.

Nate Burnell had 15 saves in goal. Schick also had an assist.

Columbiana is 12-2-2 and will host Leetonia on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in a Div. IV sectional.

West Branch 4,

Beaver Local 0

BELOIT — West Branch scored four second half goals to down Beaver Local 4-0 on Saturday in girls soccer action.

Emma Egli had two goals for the Warriors. Lexi Biery and Bri Blevins added one each. Haley Jones, Addy Jones, Makenna Lins and Egli each had assists.

West Branch hosts Cardinal Mooney at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Div. II sectional.

Beaver Local hosts Carrollton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday in a Div. II sectional.
