CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s girls soccer team scored three times in the first 10 minutes to set the pace and never look back in a 9-0 win over Carrollton on Monday in a Div. II sectional opener at Beaver Local High School.

Jordan Palmer had a personal-season high three goals to lead the charge.

“In our 4-0 loss to West Branch on Saturday we did a lot of positive things,” Beaver Local coach Liz Connor said. “We were keeping possession and not forcing things into space. Today I think we gained confidence in our shooting accuracy which has not been sharp as of late.”

The Beavers (8-4-4) will travel to top-seed River View on Thursday for the sectional final. Carrollton ends the season 5-11-1.

Also for the sixth-seeded Beavers, Riley Britt, Danica Taylor, Makenna Coie, Chansyn Hoppel, Olivia Prince and Madison Cline had single goal tallies. Hoppel and Jensen Britt had two assists each. Riley Britt also had an assist.

In goal Hailey Russell had two saves and Carmen Inman had one save.

The Beavers and River View Black Bears have common opponents in St. Clairsville and Minerva. River View beat St. Clairsville 1-0 and Minerva 5-0. Beaver Local tied St. Clairsville 1-1 and beat Minerva 2-0.

“We played them last year in the district final and lost 2-1,” Connor said. “It’s going to be a close one.”

Connor said River View’s win over St. Clairsville came on a late penalty kick. She said her team had plenty of chances against St. Clairsville in the 1-1 draw, so she feels confident going into the game.

Connor said she chose to go into River View’s bracket because otherwise it would have been a rematch with St. Clairsville right off the bat and she didn’t want that. She also said she wanted to avoid No. 2 seed John Glenn for as long as possible.
