Tigers start a new tradition

From Staff Reports

WELLSVILLE — Wellsville’s football team is off to its best start since 2014 after a 41-7 win over Edison on Friday.

The win marked the first for the Tigers on the new Nicholson Stadium artificial surface installed over the summer months.

Wellsville’s Troy Carter got the Tigers on the board with a 1-yard sneak with 9:17 to go in the first quarter. The big play on the drive came from a Carter to Darien Suggs 31-yard pass on third down and 13 at the Edison 34.

Interceptions by Suggs and Justin Wright stalled other Edison drives in the first quarter.

Carter and Suggs hooked up again with 9:29 left in the second quarter and Justin Sarge added a two-point conversion to make it 14-0.

In the final four minutes of the second quarter things got a little wild with 21-total points scored to end the half.

Edison got on the board with a Tyler Griffith 1-yard run to make it 14-7.

Carter and Suggs were dialed in again with a 53-yard strike to make it 21-7 with 2:49 left in the half.

Wellsville got the ball back with 2:09 left in the half and drove down the field as Carter hit Suggs on a 28-yard pass with no time left on the board to make it 28-7.

Jason Tice added to the Tiger lead with a 61-yard interception return with 9:08 left in the third to make it 35-7.

Suggs added another interception with 7:34 to go in the third. Garrett Krzyston sealed the game with a 28-yard touchdown with 3:58 left in the game.

Wellsville (2-0) hosts Malvern next Friday. Edison is 0-2 and hosts Toronto next Friday.
