Devils win; 1,000 for McKinstry

LISBON –Lisbon’s volleyball team was on the money on Tuesday against Southern.

Maddie Liberati had 11 points, 22 kills and 15 digs, while Callie Steed had 19 kills and 20 digs as the Blue Devils beat the Indains, 25-11, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22. Justyce Vrable had 16 points.

Lisbon is 6-4 and 4-2 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. Lisbon is at Wellsville on Thursday.

Cheyenne Utt had 10 points for the Indians, while Erin Boyle had six kills. Maddie Paxson had 10 kills. Kyleigh Ketchum had 12 assists and four kills. Delainey Mellott had 10 assists.

Southern is 2-7, 1-6. Souhern is at Steubenville Central on Thursday.

Lisbon won the jayvee portion, 25-12, 25-17. Tabby Ketchum had 11 points.

Laryn Jackson had six points and three kills for the Indians.. Mariah Anderson had five points.

Wellsville 3,

East Palestine 0

WELLSVILLE — Wellsville coach Dan McKinstry didn’t want his team knowing he was coaching in his 1,000th career match on Tuesday against East Palestine.

“Me and my wife knew and that was it,” McKinstry said. “I’ve got a good bunch of kids and I just wanted to focus on us getting some separation in the league.”

McKinstry has been coaching volleyball for 42 years and has a 743-257 record after a 25-18, 25-16, 25-15 win over the Bulldogs.

Wellsville is 8-1 and 6-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. The Tigers have a two-game lead.

For the winners, Emily McNicol had six aces and 23 assists. MEaghan Nixon had 18 digs. Emma Smith added 14 kills. Greta Cartwright had four aces three kills and 11 assists. Aubri Ramsey and Alana Amato had 10 kills each. Jenna McNicol had 30 digs.

Morgan Cheurco had 18 kills for the Bulldogs. Emily Berger added six kills. Jami Jones had six points.

McKinstry started his coaching career at East Palestine before taking over Wellsville’s program.

“It’s fitting that the 1,000th match involved these two schools,” McKinstry said. “In fact, the second match I coached in was against Wellsville.”

East Palestine won the jayvee portion, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16. Paige Green had four aces and 15 assists for the Tigers.

Wellsville hosts Lisbon on Thursday. Wellsville is at United Thursday.

East Liverpool 3,

Edison 0

RICHMOND –East Liverpool rolled over Edison, 25-21, 25-11, 25-21, Monday night.

The Potters, now 4-3, were led by Emma Ludwig with two aces, 12 kills and five blocks, Sharnae Wilson eight kills and one block and Emily Recktenwald two aces and six digs.

East Liverpool also won the junior varsity match in three games as Victoria Flores had 13 attacks and four kills and Jett Fitch three point, five attack and five kills.

In freshmen action, the Potters won in two games behind Erica Ward’s 10 attaacks and eight kills and Aliyah Parson’s four aces and six points.

East Liverpool will play at Beaver Local on Thursday.
