Sebring grad to play in major
FARMINGTON, N.Y. — Sebring High School graduate Cory Schneider will tee off at the PGA Championship this morning.
Schneider is among the 20 club pros who will compete against the top golfers in the world at Bethpage Black. The top 20 in the PGA Professional Championship earned spots in the PGA Tour’s second major of the year.
The 35-year-old Schneider is the club pro at The Pointe Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C.
He will tee of at 8:57 a.m. today on the 10th hole and at 2:22 p.m. Friday on the first hole. Also playing in his group will be Lucas Herbert of Australia and Sungjae Im of South Korea.
Schneider, a 2002 graduate of Sebring High School, got his start golfing at the old Sebring Country Club.
The former Tri-County League standouts was a four-year letterman in golf and a three-year letterman in baseball at Sebring High School. In golf, Schneider made All-TCL three years and was a Division III district qualifier twice. In baseball, he was All-TCL as an infielder his senior year.
After graduating from Sebring, Schneider starred at Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., where he earned his degree in professional golf management. He was the winner o the 2015 South Carolina Open and holds or has held six course records.
Schneider was inducted into the Sebring Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.
