Riccardo graces third team All-Ohio

JENNA RICCARDO

COLUMBUS — The awards are piling up for Beaver Local junior Jenna Riccardo, the school’s all-time leading scorer.

Riccardo, named the Columbiana County player of the year earlier in the week, was named to the Division II All-Ohio high school girls basketball team released Wednesday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

Riccardo received third-team honors, the highest showing by a Beaver Local girl since Rachel McCoy was named to the Division II first team in 2004.

Ironically, Riccardo passed McCoy at the top of the Beaver Local career scoring list this season and has 1,261 points with another season to go.

Riccardo recorded 19 double-doubles as she led the Beavers to a 14-9 season.

She averaged 23.0 points, 13.3 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.6 blocks a game.

West Branch junior Payton Alazaus and Minerva senior Addie Rhodes received honorable mention in Division II.

Alazaus sparked the Warriors to a 17-7 season. She led the leads team in scoring (14.0), rebounds (5.5), three-pointers (a school-record 66) and free throw percentage (65 percent). She also averaged 2.0 steals and 1.3 assists.

Rhodes guided Minerva to a surprising season with an 18-7 record.

The Lions needed her on the floor as she played 701 of 800 possible minutes this season. She averaged 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.2 steals, 2.2 blocks and 2.0 assists a game in her well-rounded game.

The Ohio Ms. Basketball will be announced today.
