Beavers poised for state

HEATH — Beaver Local’s wrestling team had six wrestlers reach the championship semifinals on Friday during opening day action at the Div. II Heath district wrestling tournament.

Beaver Local will be represented by Logan Ours (120), Cole McComas (126), Skyler Lasure (145), Beau Smith (170), Garrett Givens (220) and Daniel Wirth (285) in the championship semifinals today.

Only the first round and quarterfinals were wrestled on Friday. Consolations and the completion of the championship rounds will be held today.

Minerva’s Drake Decker (106), Jacob Norris (113), Ethan Mueller (138), Logan Williams (220) and Jarrett Burress (285) all advanced to the championship semifinals.

East Liverpool’s Skylor Wooley (220) is also in the championship semifinals.

The top four in each weight class advancing to the state tournament.

Div. II Alliance

ALLIANCE — The Alliance Div. II district wrestling tournament lived up to its reputation as a meat-grinder on Friday as West Branch advanced two wrestlers to the championship semifinals.

Christian Wayt (120 pounds) and Kenny Marra (195) are the only Warriors in the championship semifinals.

Action continues today with the top four in each weight class advancing to the state tournament.

Div. III

GARFIELD HEIGHTS — Five area wrestlers punched their tickets into the championship semifinals on Friday at the Garfield Heights Div. III district tournament.

Columbiana’s Brandt Virden (113 pounds) and Nathan Whitehead (195) earned their spots in the championship semifinals, while South Range’s Kyle Keenan (126) and Anthony Czap (220) also were successful with two wins on Friday.

Crestview’s Trey Wonner (132 pounds) is in the championship semifinal as well.

The top four finishers in each weight class will earn a berth in the state tournament.
