Beaver Local competes at state indoor track meet

GENEVA — Salem junior Abbie Antram is ready to make the next step.

Antram won the Division II-III girls shot put at the Ohio Associated of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC) indoor state championship Saturday.

Antram, the defending Columbiana County champion, had a winning toss of 38-feet-8 3/4 to top area athletes at the SPIRE Institute. Covington senior Lauren Christian was second (38-6 1/2).

Crestview senior Dominic Perry and Salem junior Hunter Christopher were state runners-up in their specialties.

Perry, the defending Division III outdoor state champion, was second in the boys shot put (58-2). His last five throws all went over 55-10. Northwestern senior Adam Riedinger was first (59-7 3/4).

Christopher placed second in the boys 3200-meter run in 9 minutes, 29.88 seconds. West Branch senior Jeff Joseph finished ninth (9:53.93). Shelby junior Caleb Brown was the winner in a state-meet record time of 9:12.55.

The Salem girls were third in the 3200 relay (9:55.33).

Crestview senior Dylan Huff was fourth in the boys long jump (20-feet-9 1/4) and joined Ethan Powell, Jayce Meredith and Stephen Barr on the seventh-place 800 relay team (1:33.49).

Also in the long jump, West Branch sophomore David McKeiver was seventh (20-6), Minerva sophomore Garrison Markins eighth (20-5 1/4) and South Range senior Connor Tarr 21st (17-11 1/2).

Minerva senior Joey Stafford was fifth in the 1600 run (4:29.07) and United junior Jaret Hahn was eighth in the 100 hurdles (8.98). Hahn also ran the same time in the preliminaries.

In the boys 200 dash, Springfield junior Garrett Walker was fifth (22.48) and Crestview sophomore Ethan Powell was 11th (22.95).

Also for the boys, Crestview senior Jayce Meredith was 10th in the 400 dash (51.64); Beaver Local freshman James Monte was 13th (8.90) and Salem junior Zach Murray 21st (9.19) in the 100 hurdles; the South Range 3200-meter relay team was 17th (8:51.98) and Salem 18th (8:52.91); Beaver Local was 18th in the 800 relay (1:37.14); and Salem was 18th in the 1600 relay (3:44.87).

The Salem girls were seventh in the 1600 relay (4:16.52).

Beaver Local freshman Kodi Kinsey was ninth (15-5 1/4) and junior Teddi Kinsey 13th (15-3) in the girls long jump. Teddi Kinsey also was 13th in the 100 hurdles (9.77) and 16th in the 200 dash (26.77).

Also competing in the girls events were Salem sophomore Lizzy Shontz 10th (38-3) Antram 18th (36-2 1/4) in the weight throw; Salem senior Haley Rozeski ninth (2:22.59) and Minerva senior Sarah Carver 17th (2:27.98). in the 800 run; Salem sophomore Carly Hall 14th in the 1600 run (5:31.76).
