EOAC champs finish fourth

COLUMBUS — Toronto finished fourth in Division IV of the final Associated Press high school boys basketball poll released Monday.

The Red Knights (18-3), the two-time Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference champions, dropped a spot after falling to Wheeling Central, 63-53, in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 2A championship game Saturday.

Toronto will play its last game of the regular season and in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference at home against Southern Local on Friday.

The Red Knights have won 27 straight league games and are leaving the EOAC at the end of the school year.

Ashtabula Edgewood (20-1) is ranked sixth in Division III. Edgewood defeated Crestview, 88-58, Saturday to wrap up the All-American Conference Blue Tier title.

Poland (18-2) is ranked fourth in Division II. Poland will close out the regular season at Windham tonight and at Struthers on Friday.

Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary (16-3) — with East Liverpool graduate Dru Joyce II in his 18th season as head coach — is ranked seventh in Division I. The Irish won the Division II state title the last two seasons.
