Beavers make a splash

WHEELING, W. Va. — The Beaver Local girls swimming team took second place in the Red Devil Invitational, which doubled as the Buckeye 8 Championships, at the McDonough Center Saturday.

St. Clairsville swept the boys and girls team titles. The St. Clairsville girls scored 141 points, followed by Beaver Local with 52.

St. Clairsville freshman Casadie DiBetta set a pool record in winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 6.52 seconds.

St. Clairsville (141), Beaver Local (52), Martins Ferry (43), Weir (23), Edison (15), East liverpool (11), John Glenn (9), Barnesville (7), Union Local (6), Cambridge (1).

BOYS STANDINGS

St. Clairsville (123), Martins Ferry (47), Weir (44), East Liverpool (30), Beaver Local (25), Cambridge (16), Edison (10), Indian Creek (9), John Glenn (3), Barnesville (1).

Toronto holds fourth spot

COLUMBUS — Toronto, which has a two-game lead over Wellsville in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference, remains fourth in the Associated Press Division IV high school boys basketball poll.

The Red Knights improved to 12-1 and 8-0 in the EOAC after defeating United, 79-58, Friday. They will host East Palestine tonight.

Springfield (10-1), which suffered its first loss to Waterloo on Friday, drops one spot to 16th in Division IV. The Tigers are 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference, one game behind Waterloo.

Shenandoah (11-2) is one spot ahead of Springfield after defeating Oak Glen, 67-57, Friday.
