Riccardo shines for Beavers

CALCUTTA –Beaver Local’s girls basketball team got a season-high 33 points and 14 rebounds from junior Jenna Riccardo in slipping past Buckeye Local 66-65 on Thursday in a Buckeye 8 Athletic League encounter.

Elizabeth Kolkowski added 16 points and 10 boards for the Beavers who evened their record at 6-6. Madison Cline chipped in 12 points and six rebounds.

Buckeye Local (7-4) was in first place in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 4A standings coming into Thursday’s game. Beaver Local is currently in third place behind St. Clairsville. The top four in each classification qualify for the conference tournament.

Chansyn Hoppel and Madison Ours added five assists each for the winners.

Beaver Local will return to the floor at Union Local on Saturday.

Beaver Local won the jayvee game, 37-28. Jensen Britt, Emma Roberts and Halle Jordan had eight points each. Leah Riccardo had seven points.

LEETONIA–The Leetonia girls basketball team overcame a late four-point deficit to edge Wellsville 46-44 Thursday.

The Bears are now 7-5 overall and 4-5 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. The Tigers fall to 0-13, 0-9.

For the Bears, Sabrina Schneider hit the game-winning bucket as part of her nine points. Ari Russell scored 11 points, including a pair of crucial free-throws with under two minutes left. Anna Buffone added 10 points, including a game-tying shot in the final two minutes. Taran Ferry grabbed 11 rebounds.

Camryn Jackson led the Tigers with 14 points. Hunter Weekley added 12 points. Cameron Carlevale had 11 points. five rebounds, five steals and four assists. Kiki Perry had eight rebounds and three blocks.

Leetonia won the jv game 22-15.

The Bears are at Lowellville Saturday. The Tigers travel to Columbiana Monday.

Columbiana 72, Southern 22

COLUMBIANA–Columbiana blew out Southern 72-22 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference girls basketball action Thursday.

Kayla Muslovski racked up 25 points and six steals for the Clippers, who improve to 9-0 in the EOAC. The Indians fall to 1-8 in conference play.

Also for Columbiana, Grace Hammond contributed 17 points and five steals. Kennedy Fullum finished with 13 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Riley Felton led Southern with nine points.

Columbiana hosts Wellsville Monday. Southern hosts United Monday.

Lisbon 54, East Palestine 31

LISBON–The Lisbon girls basketball team moved into second place in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference with a 54-31 win over East Palestine Thursday.

The Blue Devils are now 9-4 overall and 7-2 in the EOAC. The Bulldogs drop to 6-3 in the EOAC.

For the Blue Devils, Izzy Perez set the tone defensively with 11 steals. She also powered the offense with 15 points.

Maddie Liberati had a solid game down low with 12 points and seven rebounds. Chloe Smith chipped in 10 points. Callie Steed aided the defensive effort with five steals.

Kenzee Johnston led the Bulldogs with 11 points, while Jaliyah Mixon added 10 points.

East Palestine won the jv game 30-25. Jami Jones and Morgan Rutledge each scored eight points for the Bulldogs. Bryanna VanGiesen scored 10 points for Lisbon.

Both teams are back in action Monday. Lisbon is at Toronto, while East Palestine is at Leetonia.
