Beaver Local gangs up on Edison

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local pulled to .500 with a 69-50 win over Edison on Friday in Buckeye 8 Athletic League play.
Josh Hilditch had 16 points, five assists and three rebounds for the Beavers, 7-7. Tate Joseph added 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Nathan Barber had 14 points and four rebounds. Luke Chetock had 12 points and four assists.
Beaver Local won the jayvee portion, 66-50. Ryan Cunningham had 19 points for the winners.
Beaver is at Harrison Central on Tuesday.

LISBON — Lisbon lived on the edge as the Devils turned back Columbiana 55-54 in overtime on Friday.
For Lisbon, Justin Sweeney led the way with 21 points, while Logan Bell added 15 points and seven rebounds. Ryan McCullough had 10 rebounds and three assists.
Lisbon (6-8, 4-6) is at Toronto on Tuesday. Toronto can clinch at least a share of the league title with a win.
Erik Hopfenziz, Sean Whitehead and Matt Mazei had 13 points each for the Clippers, 8-7, 4-6. Mazei and Hunter Zentner had 10 rebounds each.
The jayvee game was played on Thursday due to the game being a boy-girl doubleheader.
Columbiana hosts Wellville on Tuesday.

WELLSVILLE — Sophomore Brock Smalley scored a game-high 23 points as Southern Local beat Wellsville for the first time since 2016 with a 67-63 victory Friday.
The Indians trailed from a 45-42 at the end of the third quarter by hitting 6-of-10 free throws in the final period.
Southern improves to 9-4 overall and 6-4 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.
Wellsville’s loss puts Toronto a step closer to repeating as league champion. The Tigers are 8-4 overall and 6-3 in the EOAC, tied with United for second place, three games behind Toronto.
Cam Grodhaus contributed 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists to the winning effort. Brady Tolson collected 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jayce Sloan added eight rebounds, six steals and four assists. Brd Sloan and Max Hart each had three assists.
Leaders for Wellsville were Garrett Scott wtih 21 points and four rebounds, Darien Suggs 20 points, Luke Green 12 points and Derrick Suggs nine points, four rebounds and four assists.
Southern also won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 25-10. Nick Utt, Sam May and Mark Soukup each scored six points for the Indians.
Both teams play league games Tuesday as Southern hosts United and Wellsville goes to Columbiana.
