Bears have it all working vs. Grafton

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — Through the week, Oak Glen coach Ted Arneault said his team’s matchup with Grafton was a big opportunity for his Golden Bears. His team answered the call and took full advantage, defeating the Bearcats 49-21 Friday night at home.

“That’s a big win for us,” Arneault said. “That is a big win for our program. That is a school that is our size that was No. 7 in the state coming in.”

Sophomore quarterback Nick Chaney accounted for six scores – five through the air to go with 242 yards passing and one on the ground — while junior wideout Zach Taylor hauled in three touchdown passes, finishing with four catches for 101 yards.

The Golden Bears, now 2-2, won for a second straight week and raced out to a 28-0 lead before Grafton (2-1) got on the board. Hunter Patterson and Taylor made touchdown grabs on the first two Oak Glen possessions for a 14-0 lead after one quarter. Gage Patterson, who returned from injury with a 195-yard rushing performance and a touchdown each on the ground and receiver, hauled in a 3-yard touchdown pass and then burst through everyone for a 97-yard scoring run to push the advantage to 28-0.

After a pair of quick scores by the Bearcats, Taylor had a 28-yard catch and run to make it a 35-14 lead at the half.

Chaney scored on a QB sneak early in the third quarter and Taylor hauled in a 53-yard bomb to cap the scoring midway through the fourth quarter.

Oak Glen hosts rival East Liverpool in Week 5.
