Potters are OVAC runner-up
WHEELING, W.Va. — East Liverpool’s boys tennis team finished as the runner-up on Tuesday during a marathon day at the OVAC boys tennis championships at the Wheeling Park Tennis Bubble.
Cambridge came away with a victory in the final singles match of the day to win the title. East Liverpool had been the OVAC small school champion the previous two years.
East Liverpool’s Chris Montgomery made it to the No. 1 singles final for the second straight year and was defeated by University’s Drew Hawthorne. Alex Tambellini advanced to the semifinal but was ousted by Ateas Aggarwal of Morgantown. Austin Deering lost in the second round to Ben Ridgewell of Park High School. Ayden Payne dropped his first round match.
Oak Glen’s boys finished with eight points in the tournament. Connor Blake scored the most points for the Bears by advancing to the singles semifinals.
OVAC girls doubles
WHEELING, W.Va. — The Oak Glen girls tennis team competed in doubles action in the OVAC girls tennis championships on Wednesday at the Wheeling Park.
Steubenville Central’s Thivault and Kristina McNamara beat Oak Glen’s Brooke Provenzano and Cristal Tetrault 8-5 in No. 1 doubles play. Wheeling Park’s Emily Tork and Abigail Mulhern beat Oak Glen’s Lexi Rheinhardt and Kara Stanley 8-1 in second doubles play. In third doubles, Oak Glen’s Courtney Brickner and Sierra Wright won a match against Indian Creek’s Miah Thompson and Nicole Walkosky, 8-1.
