Roach nabs honorable mention
COLUMBUS — Four area players received mention on the 2017-18 Division II All-Ohio high school boys basketball team.
Minerva senior Connor Wright claimed special mention, while Salem senior Mitch Davidson, East Liverpool junior Gabe Roach and West Branch senior T.J. DeShields gained honorable mention.
Connor Wright was the Lions’ leading scorer a third straight season, averaging 19.2 points a game, and became the ninth Minerva player to score 1,000 career points.
Mitch Davidson set a Salem single-season record by averaging 24.0 points a game go along with 7.1 rebounds. He led the team in scoring the past two seasons.
Gabe Roach led the Potters in scoring a second straight season. He averaged 17.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists a game while shooting 52 percent from the field.
T.J. DeShields became West Branch’s career scoring leader as he topped the Warriors in scoring and rebounding a second straight season. He averaged 18.2 points in leading the Warriors to an 16-7 season.
New Concord John Glenn senior Justin Heacock — the son of West Branch graduate and former Muskingum College football coach Jeff Heacock — was named to the Division II second team. Justin Heacock averaged 15.7 points a game as he paced the Little Muskies to a 21-5 record and the district finals.
The Division II Player of the Year is Richfield Revere’s 6-foot-10 Pete Nance. Nance, the younger brother of Cleveland Cavaliers’ Larry Nance Jr., averaged 21.0 points, 12 rebounds, 4.5 assists and four blocks a game.
