Beaver does well at district

ATHENS — Beaver Local’s boys swimming team produced some strong results on Friday at the Div. II district tournament at Ohio University.

Beaver Local senior Josh Littleton led the way with a fifth place showing in the 100-yard backstroke (57.53). Only the top two finishers in each event earn automatic state tournament spots. Sixteen at-large state qualifier spots will be determined by the best non-automatic qualifying from around the state’s four district meets.

Last year the minimum cutoff to qualify for state in the backstroke was 54.74.

Senior Corey Snow took eighth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.62. Last year’s minimum state qualifying time in that event was 1:01.39. Also swimming for Beaver Local in that event was Samuel Brothers who took 24th (1:13.57).

Damon Chafins recorded a 14th place showing in the 100 butterfly (58.56).

In the 100 freestyle, Littleton was 22nd (56.33) and Brothers was 28th (56.79).

Snow was 27th in the 50 freestyle (25.54).

The Beaver boys 200 medley relay team was seventh in 1:49.05 and the 400 freestyle relay team was 13th (3:47.03).

East Liverpool senior Colin Smith was 24th in the 100 backstroke (1:07.15). Marcus Calhoun II was 25th in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.36). The Potter boys 200 medley relay team was 28th (2:02.73) and the 400 freestyle relay team was 24th (4:12.89).

For the Beaver Local girls, Olivia Prince was 27th in the 100 butterfly (1:10.27). Hannah Myers was 28th in the 100 freestyle (1:00.28). The Beaver Local 200 freestyle relay team was 13th in 1:53.25. The 200 medley relay was 17th in 2:09.73 and the 400 freestyle relay was 15th in 4:10.56.

The East Liverpool girls 200 medley relay was 28th in 2:22.43.

Official state qualifiers will be released today.
