1956-2025
Rosemary “Rosie” Gibson, born on Dec. 24, 1956, in Wellsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Jan. 5, 2025, at the age of 68, surrounded by her loved ones at Mercy Health-St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital. A cherished daughter of the late Ernest Gibson Sr. and Elizabeth Dunlap Gibson, Rosie was a pillar of strength, joy, and dedication to her community and family.
A proud graduate of Wellsville High School, class of 1975, Rosie pursued higher education at Kent State University, where she earned an Associates degree. Her professional life was marked by nearly four decades of dedicated service as a laboratory technician at Ergon, Inc, formerly Quaker State, beginning in 1979. Her colleagues remember her as a committed worker and a joyful prankster who brought happiness and laughter into their lives.
Rosie’s life was a tapestry of love, service, and faith. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wellsville, where she contributed to the food pantry and participated in various church activities. Her melodic voice graced The Angelics gospel group, spreading joy and spiritual fulfillment in the Ohio Valley and surrounding areas.
Her commitment to her community was evident through her work with the Wellsville City Council and her quiet, behind-the-scenes efforts to support and uplift those around her. Known for her strong will and stubborn determination, Rosie had a heart full of generosity, always happy to lend a helping hand or share a warm smile. Rosie’s legacy of love continued after her death by her selfless act of being a cornea donor to help restore sight to those in need.
Rosie is survived by her loving son, Keith Goss Jr. of Wellsville; her devoted sister, Sandy (Charles) Larsuel of Canton; her caring brother, Ernie Gibson Jr. (Debbie) of Midland, Pa.; and a host of cherished nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her special friend and “ride or die girl,” Tina Pullie, her work friend Jimmy, and her trusted handyman, Sonny “James.”
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, from 11 a.m. until noon at the First Baptist Church in Wellsville. Rosie’s homegoing service will follow at noon, officiated by Pastor Roylin Pettis III from First Baptist Church and Dr. Walter J. Arrington from Peoples Baptist Church in Canton, Ohio will deliver the eulogy.
In remembering Rosie, we celebrate a life beautifully lived — a life filled with laughter, song, and unwavering devotion to her family, faith, and community. She will be dearly missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew her.
