Florence A. Martin

EAST LIVERPOOL – Florence A. Martin, of East Liverpool, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at her home. She was 101.

Born in East Liverpool, November 15, 1919, she was a daughter of the late James D. and Lottie Keys Joyce. A lifetime area resident, she was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1938. For over 20 years, Florence worked at the East Liverpool County Club until her retirement. A member of Sheridan A.M.E. Church, she was treasurer of the flower fund for over 31 years and served as a member of the Steward’s Board. A member of the East Liverpool/Wellsville NAACP chapter, she helped establish the organization’s James “Botsy” Martin Scholarship in memory of her late husband.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. “Botsy” Martin, on January 21, 1995. The couple married August 29, 1958. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Joyce Reed, and three brothers, James Drexel Joyce, Ernie Joyce and Beauford Joyce.

Left to cherish her memory are her many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit Friday evening, July 30, at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Rev. Brenda Johnson of the church will conduct a funeral service Saturday, July 31, at 12:00 p.m. noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center.
