James “Bill” Walker
James “Bill” Walker, 95, the unofficial mayor of Newell Heights, passed away June 14, 2021.
Born August 7, 1925 in Middlebourne, WV, he was the son of the late James and Viola (Bellville) Walker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his first wife, Velma (Simmons) Walker and his 2nd wife, Mary (Hunter) Walker; two sons James Walker and Dennis Walker; a brother, Clyde Walker and a sister, Corabelle Taylor.
Bill proudly served in the United States Navy. He was faithful member of the Glendale Church of the Nazarene and a member of the Newell American Legion
Surviving are four grandchildren, Melissa Cox (Robert Vargo) of Wintersville, Candace Long (Richard Knight) of New Cumberland Jennifer Walker of Chester and D.J. (Mey) Walker of Chester; sixteen great-grandchildren, Stepchildren, Mary McFarland of California, Deborah Coil of Florida, Kathi Monroe of WV, Bonnie Dray of Newell and James McFarland of Wellsville; eight step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday, from 2-4 and 6-8p.m., at the Nixon Funeral Home, Newell, WV, where funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, June 21,2021. Military service will be conducted by American Legion Post 121- VFW Post 6450 Honor Guard.
Burial will follow in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell, WV.
